I’m thrilled to announce a series of interactive workshops I’ll be hosting in collaboration with the Arts Society of Kingsville. As a passionate advocate for the art of storytelling, I am eager to share the insights and techniques I’ve gathered over my journey in writing women’s fiction. These workshops are designed not just to hone your craft as writers but to create a nurturing space where we can explore the depths of narrative and character together. Whether you’re beginning your writing journey or looking to enrich your skills, these sessions are a heartfelt invitation to join a community of like-minded individuals, eager to learn, grow, and transform our shared passion for writing into something truly remarkable. Who?

This program is for both experienced and beginning writers, fiction writers, and memoirists. It is particularly geared towards writers near the beginning of a project.

1st Session Details

Interactive Learning, with experienced instruction, engaging activities, personalized feedback and group discussions, and extensive resources.

This session will explore the 5 W’s Before Story, where you:

  • uncover your motivation, genre, and audience (“ideal” reader), and 
  • define your story’s who, what, when, where, and why.

This course guides you through evaluating and expanding your initial idea to sustain a novel of 50K-100K words. Explore techniques for building depth, complexity, and endurance in your narrative.
  • Monday, April 15, 1 to 3: World-building and Setting: Crafting Atmosphere and Theme. (Register here: https://signup.com/go/HiypBrd) Learn to align your story’s setting with its tone and theme. This course teaches you to create immersive worlds that enhance the mood and reinforce the thematic elements of your narrative, ensuring a harmonious and compelling backdrop for your story.
  • Monday, March 18, 1 to 3: Character Development: Crafting Depth and Dimension. (Register here: https://signup.com/go/HiypBrd) Master the art of creating ’round’ characters. This workshop focuses on developing characters with intricate goals, emotional wounds, fears, and secrets, adding layers of depth and realism to your storytelling. Explore techniques for building lifelike, relatable characters that resonate with readers.

Each class will focus on one crucial aspect of long-form writing, with a personalized deep dive into a fundamental element of storytelling. More experienced writers can cherry-pick sessions to address specific areas of interest.

Other Options

Explore the possibility of an alternative workshop, tailored to your unique storytelling needs. A minimum of three writers is required to create a dynamic and personalized learning experience.
