📚🌟 Exciting News! 🌟📚

I'm over the moon to share that my book has made its way into a real, bricks-and-mortar library! 📖🏛️✨ It's a dream come true! I've been asked how I achieved this as a self-published author, so here's the scoop:

It took some time and persistence. I started late last year by reaching out to the library and following up once their budgets renewed. 💰 I also got some amazing advice 👂from a former librarian friend. She suggested I prepare a "fast sheet" with all the key details about my book, including a short snippet, info about me, ISBN, price, etc. 📄✨

I also had my book reviewed by Foreword Clarion (a so-called "trade review") and included the glowing review in my library submission. 📚👍

Patience, persistence, and a bit of insider knowledge were the keys to success! 🌟💪

Thank you all for your support! 💖 Your encouragement keeps me going! 🙏

📚✨ Just finished "All I'm Asking" by J. Marie Rund

📚✨ Just finished "All I'm Asking" by J. Marie Rundquist, and it's a phenomenal debut! Rundquist's talent for creating distinct character voices and exploring complex family dynamics truly shines. 🌟 The story unfolds through emails, texts, and online posts, giving us a glimpse into the lives of Naomi, an online teacher and single-ish mom, and her circle of family, friends, colleagues, students, and even book club members! 💌📱

I was amazed by how each character felt so real and unique, from Naomi’s best friend to the neighbour of a book club member. 👩‍🏫👩‍👧 Rundquist tackles sensitive topics like teenage pregnancy, chronic illness, and diverse family make-ups with incredible empathy and depth. 💕

Given our recent experiences with COVID and online learning, I appreciated how the author handled the emotional challenges teenagers face as schools transition back to in-person. 🎓 The novel beautifully portrays how we navigate personal struggles while balancing professional and family responsibilities.

And let's not forget the depiction of the TERRIBLE manager—so realistic and a great lesson in what NOT to do in leadership! 😂🙅‍♂️

"All I'm Asking" blends humour and emotional insight perfectly, making it an engaging and heartfelt read. Highly recommend!

P.S. As someone in her sixth decade, I'm upping my emoji game to connect better with the younger generation. 🌸 Emojis add a layer of emotional depth that text alone sometimes misses!

‘A thoroughly engrossing legal drama ⚖️ highlighting and challenging the thorny subject of assisted dying. Highly recommended!’ The Wishing Shelf

I must say, I very much enjoyed this character-focused novel from the talented pen of Marcy Lane. Accessibly written and often rather thought-provoking 🤔, I loved not only getting to know the characters but also contemplating the thorny subject of mercy killing.

So, what's it about? Well, in a nutshell, it’s the story of a woman living in Canada 🇨🇦 where assisted dying is legal. She's trying very hard to get over the loss of her partner ❤️ when she suddenly finds herself a juror 🧑‍⚖️ in a mercy-killing trial. What follows is a cleverly constructed legal drama ⚖️, the protagonist struggling with her own thoughts and feelings on assisted dying whilst still trying to cope with the loss of the man she loved.

There were a number of elements of this story I particularly enjoyed. Firstly, the author works well with dialogue 🗣️, using it to not only develop her small cast of characters but also the plot. Secondly, I like the protagonist 👩‍🎓. Not surprisingly, she's rather broken in this novel 💔; but I enjoyed watching her battle her way through. And thirdly, the novel is an excellent tool for exploring assisted dying and, whether you agree with it or not, this story will get you thinking 🧠.

I'm delighted to recommend this book to anybody who enjoys a well-constructed legal drama ⚖️. I think they'll enjoy rooting for the protagonist, and hoping she'll find the truth she's looking for. There's also the odd comical moment 😂 which adds balance to the story; as a result, it’s not too depressing to read - it’s even got a few dogs in it 🐕!

All in all, a bit of a gem 💎!

📚✨ Just finished reading House on Fire by D. Liebe

📚✨ Just finished reading House on Fire by D. Liebert and I am absolutely blown away. I first heard about this captivating book on Maggie Smith's "Hear Us Roar" podcast and knew immediately it was a must-read given its profound themes that resonate deeply with my own experiences. 🌟

🔥 House on Fire dives into the emotional whirlwinds of being a caregiver through the lens of a nurse juggling her challenging roles as a mother, partner, and daughter. Dealing with themes of grief, disease, and euthanasia, Liebert masterfully intertwines medical knowledge with the raw realities of love and loss, making you feel every bit of the characters’ complex lives. 💔

📖 The authenticity and compassion Liebert pours into this narrative is palpable, offering a unique perspective that only comes from true experience. Every dilemma, every moment of pain, feels real and urgent. This book is a heartfelt exploration of the human condition and the intricate web of personal duty and loss.

🌿 If you’re seeking a novel that tackles heavy, real-world issues with elegance and empathy, House on Fire should be next on your reading list. A story that's both enlightening and profoundly moving—perfect for anyone who values depth and genuine emotional engagement in their reads.

👉 Highly recommended for fans of meaningful, thought-provoking literature!

As we approach Earth Hour, I'm reminded of the journey I've embarked on to lessen my footprint on our precious planet. From recycling relentlessly, reusing plastics, to choosing eco-friendly soaps and nurturing a vegetable garden with worm castings for fertilizer, every small step has been a stride towards sustainability. I've always believed in shopping local and try to make mindful choices that honour our earth.

Yet, as we witness record-breaking heat and weather anomalies, the urge to amplify my efforts grows stronger. 🌍💡 This year, I pledge to take three significant steps forward:

1. Lobby for Local Curbside Composting: I adore my new community but it's high time we caught up with curbside composting, including animal waste. It's essential for reducing landfill use and creating a greener, more sustainable environment.

2. Increase Vegetarian Days: By committing to at least 3 vegetarian days a week, I aim to lessen the impact on methane emissions. It's a small change with a big environmental benefit.

3. Eco-friendly Pet Waste Management: I'm on a mission to find a better solution for disposing of my dogs’ waste, understanding its importance in reducing pollution and maintaining cleanliness.

This Earth Hour, let's shine a light on the power of individual actions and collective efforts in making our world a better place. Together, we can make a difference, one sustainable choice at a time. 💚🌱

What are your pledges?
